Canada plans to recognize Palestinian state in September, PM Carney says

Canada, Canada Prime Minister Mark Carney said on Wednesday that Canada plans to recognize a Palestinian state at the United Nations meeting in September.
“We are working with ourselves to maintain the possibility of a two -state solution, to ensure that the realities on the ground, the deaths on the ground, the settlements on the ground, the expropriations on the ground, to reach the extent that this is not possible.” He said.
Carney said that the movement is subject to reforms to reform the governance of the Palestinian authority and to make the general elections that Hamas cannot play a role next year.
Israel, criticizing Carney’s position, called the “Award for Hamas” after 7 October 2023, attacking the Jewish state, reaching a ceasefire and releasing the hostages that are still held by the terrorist group.
Starmer said Britain to recognize the Palestinian state.
“Israeli Rejected the statement made by the Prime Minister of Canada,” the Israeli Foreign Ministry said in a statement. He said. “Currently, the change in the position of the Canadian government in the position of Hamas is a reward for Hamas and a framework for the introduction of cease -fire and hostages in Gaza.”
Carney’s announcement, France will recognize the Palestinian state last week, and Britain in Gaza in Gaza, the war in the UN will recognize the state in the UN.
French President Emmanuel Macron, who spoke to Carney before Canada’s statement, said the recognition of a Palestinian state would “revive the possibility of peace in the region”.
The announcements of some of Israel’s closest allies reflect the growing international anger on the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, adding more pressure on the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his government.
“Canada condemns the fact that the Israeli government allows the emergence of a disaster in Gaza,” Carney condemns. He said.
The White House also opposes the decision to recognize the Palestinian state, saying that President Donald Trump acknowledges Israel to “reward Hamas”.
“As the president states, if a Palestinian state recognizes the Palestinian state, he will reward Hamas and do not think it should be rewarded.” He said. “So he won’t do this. President Trump’s focus is to feed people [in Gaza]. “
Trump also wrote on social media that Canada’s decision to recognize a Palestinian state would “make it very difficult for us to make a trade agreement with them”.
The US’s private ambassador is scheduled to travel to Israel on Thursday to discuss the situation in Gaza. Trump said this week that centers expect to be established to feed more people in the region.
