Child falls into septic tank at construction site in Kasaragod, dies

The death of a six-year-old boy after falling into a septic tank at an under-construction house on Manchathadukka Darga Road in Kasaragod on Sunday (June 7) has triggered fresh concerns about safety lapses at construction sites.
The victim, Mohammed Ayan Shasim, a UKG student, was the son of Ahmed Shajir and Ashyamma.
According to the information obtained, the child fell into the septic tank while playing near the construction site. He was immediately taken to a nearby hospital, but doctors were unable to save his life. The body was later taken to Kasaragod Government Hospital for autopsy.
The incident sparked criticism when it was revealed that no safety precautions were taken around the building under construction or the septic tank, even though it was a place frequented by local residents. The absence of protective barriers or warning signs raised questions about negligence and compliance with basic construction safety norms.
