Civilians killed as Ukraine, Russia trade new attacks

While civilians continue to bear the burden of the war that Russia started more than four years ago, many people died and were injured due to new attacks by Ukraine and Russia.
At least five people were killed in a Ukrainian drone attack on the Russian-occupied town of Tokmak in southeastern Ukraine, according to local officials.
Yevgeny Balitsky, the governor appointed by the Kremlin for the Zaporozhye region, said in Telegram that 18 more people were injured in the attack on Tokmak.
Balitsky said the attack targeted an infrastructure facility and targeted a market in the town.
It was not possible to independently verify the claims.
Tokmak is located only 25 km from the front line.
Ukrainian authorities have demanded civilians leave Russian-occupied areas, while Ukrainian troops have increasingly targeted Russian supply routes behind the lines in recent weeks.
Meanwhile, military governor Ivan Fedorov said in a statement on Telegram that at least two civilians were killed and 21 civilians were injured in a Russian glider bomb attack in the regional capital Zaporizhia, which is not occupied by Russia.
He said that the bomb damaged the building where an industrial company was located.
The industrial city is located 20 km north of the front line.
Three more people were killed in a Russian attack on the city of Dnipro in northern Zaporizhzhia, according to local officials.
Regional military governor Oleksandr Hanzha said 12 people, including children, were injured.
Hanzha said that the region was subjected to at least 50 Russian attacks during the day.
One person was killed in a missile attack on Ukraine’s western city of Belgorod, on the other side of the Russian border, local officials said.
Belgorod Mayor Valentin Demidov said that the woman suffered fatal shrapnel wounds due to the impact.
A power plant was also damaged.
Regional crisis staff said in a statement: “Energy infrastructure facilities have been seriously damaged. There are problems with electricity and water supply in some parts of the city.” he said.
Four years after Russia launched a war against Ukraine, Russia’s own border regions are increasingly feeling the effects of the conflict.
Belgorod is one of the most affected cities.
The Ukrainian General Staff stated that in Russian-occupied Crimea, a bridge in the middle of the Black Sea peninsula was completely destroyed, adding that as a result, Russian supplies to the front line in Eastern Ukraine were significantly blocked.
Ukraine also attacked radar facilities and an electronic reconnaissance facility near Sevastopol with drones, according to the military.
It was not possible to independently verify the claims.
Sergei Aksyonov, the governor appointed by Russia to the peninsula, said that there was a power outage in a large part of Crimea due to Ukraine’s constant drone attacks.
Speaking to Russian state news agency TASS, Aksyonov said, “More than 10 districts are currently either completely or partially without electricity.”
“The enemy is attacking the peninsula’s power grid with drones on a daily basis,” he said, describing the situation as difficult.
