Doctor stabbed in A&E with ‘big knife’ as man arrested for attempted murder | UK | News

The doctor, in his 50s, escaped being stabbed with a large knife in the early hours of Tuesday (May 26). Metropolitan Police officers responding to a separate incident at Hillingdon Hospital in West London were alerted to the horrific attack.
Officers quickly subdued the 27-year-old attacker and arrested him on suspicion of attempted murder and inflicting grievous bodily harm.
An eyewitness in the unit reported seeing the suspect attacking the doctor on the hallway floor. He stated that the suspect used a “large knife” during the attack.
“He was grinning as he stabbed her,” the witness said.
“When the police caught up to him and walked me past him, he was there in less than a minute, smiling at me.”
The attacker is thought to have mental health problems.
The doctor’s wounds were treated at the hospital where the attack took place.
Police confirmed his condition was “assessed to be neither life-threatening nor life-altering.”
The Met Police quoted CAD 926/25May and asked anyone with information to contact them on 101.
A spokesperson for Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust said: “We continue to support and reassure our staff following this incident.
“The safety and well-being of our staff is our top priority and any form of violence or aggression towards our teams is unacceptable.”
Violence targeting A&E nursing staff in England has doubled in the five years to 2024, with 4,054 acts of violence against staff recorded. This works out to just over 11 incidents per day.
