FDP on mentoring and teaching skills begins at VVCE

A two-day Faculty Development Program (FDP) titled ‘To become a good teacher, be a great mentor’ started at Vidyavardhaka College of Engineering (VVCE) in Mysuru, with the aim of equipping newly recruited faculty members with effective mentoring and student-centered teaching skills, on Friday.
The program was organized by the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) to strengthen mentoring capabilities and improve teaching competencies among newly appointed faculty members.
Logasakthi Kandasamy, associate professor, School of Business Administration, RV University, Bengaluru, inaugurated the program in the presence of Principal B. Sadashive Gowda, Principal, VVCE, Shobha Shankar, Deputy Principal and Dean (Academic Affairs) and Divya CD, associate professor, Department of Computer Science and Engineering and IQAC coordinator.
Addressing the participants, Mr. Kandasamy emphasized the vital role of mentoring in shaping students’ academic, professional and personal development. He underlined that an effective mentor must have empathy, strong communication skills, leadership qualities and the ability to provide constructive feedback.
He also explained the distinction between mentoring, teaching, and coaching, highlighting the mentor’s unique responsibilities in guiding students beyond academics.
