A five-storey building under construction collapsed at Pambanar near Peerumedu in Kerala’s Idukki around 3.30 am on Thursday. According to officials, there was no loss of life because there were no workers left in the building at that time.
While the structure was completely destroyed, the family living in a nearby house narrowly escaped. The owner of the building is Agnal, a resident of Pambanar.

The under-construction building is located in the valley area of Pambanar town, officials said. Since there was no heavy rain in the region on the day of the incident, weather conditions are not thought to be the main cause of the collapse. Initial observations indicate that construction defects may have caused the incident.
Police and fire teams arrived at the scene and evacuated the surrounding families.
The official said that the exact cause of the accident will be known only after a detailed investigation. In addition, the Revenue Administration will investigate whether the property owner has obtained the necessary permits from local authorities before starting construction.
