New York Giants owner John Mara, who has been battling an unnamed form of cancer for three months, was honored with a game ball after one of the team’s biggest wins of a painful season.

The Giants got their first win since 2020 against the arch-rival Dallas Cowboys. The Giants finished one game better than their 2024 record with a 34-17 win. This is also their first winning season against the Eagles and Cowboys since 2020.

Giants tight end Daniel Bellinger, who caught a 29-yard touchdown pass, told reporters after the game how the game ball affected Mara’s mood.

“[Mara] “That’s why he said he went for a run to get to his treatments,” Bellinger said. “No matter what everyone is going through, he has to be the toughest guy in the locker room. He’s resilient as a man and we respect him as our leader and owner.”

The win over Dallas and other results in the NFL took the Giants (4-13) out of the running for the top two draft picks.

But Mara has repeatedly made it a policy as an NFL owner to claim wins at draft position.

JERRY JONES Talked About the Cowboys’ Shortcomings in the 2025 Season

Giants captain Andrew Thomas he told the New York Post. For Mara, winning the match was “a great feeling”.

“You can tell he cares about this place; there’s a lot of legacy from his family, it means a lot to him, and it’s not just his words but his actions that matter,” Thomas said. “He’s there; a lot of owners don’t commit that much. We certainly appreciate that. We want to win every game we play and, more importantly, we want to do it more consistently. That’s our aim and I’m sure that will make Mr. Mara happy. We know he’s been through a difficult situation, so we’re praying for him and hoping he gets healthy and back on the field with us.”
