Horror as female pedestrian, 24, killed in hit and run as man arrested | UK | News

Police have confirmed that a pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run collision in North Belfast in the early hours of Thursday morning. Raven Adams, 24, originally from Tipperary, Republic of Ireland, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident in the York Street area.
As a result of the incident, a 22-year-old man was also seriously injured. Officers received a report of a single vehicle collision involving two pedestrians at 2.40am on Thursday, July 16.
The driver of the vehicle, a 22-year-old from Northern Ireland, fled the scene and was subsequently arrested in the Cavehill area.
Detective Inspector Stewart, of the Police Force’s Collision Investigation Unit, said: “At around 2.40am we received a report of a single-vehicle collision involving two pedestrians.
“Pedestrians were reportedly struck by a vehicle, the driver, a 22-year-old man, fled the scene and was later arrested by police officers in the nearby Cavehill area.
“He is currently in police custody whilst investigations into the circumstances of the incident continue. Officers and colleagues from other emergency services attended the scene and provided medical treatment to both pedestrians.
“Unfortunately, the woman was declared dead at the scene, while the man was seriously injured and taken to hospital for treatment. After several previous closures in the region, the road has now been fully reopened.

Local DUP MLA Phillip Brett said he was “deeply saddened” to learn of the “devastating loss”. He said: “I offer my sincere condolences to Raven’s family, friends and loved ones as they come to terms with this devastating loss.
“I would appeal to anyone who witnessed the collision or has dashcam, CCTV or any information that could assist the investigation to contact the PSNI on 101 quoting reference 181 of 16 July 2026. Even the smallest piece of information can be vital.
“This is an extremely sad day for our community and I would ask everyone to respect the privacy of those affected and give the PSNI time and space to conduct a full and thorough investigation.
“Finally, I would like to express my gratitude to the police, ambulance service and all emergency responders who arrived at the scene and battled the most difficult conditions. My thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected by this heartbreaking tragedy.”
