Households urged to paint yoghurt on windows | UK | News

Considering that the heat will return within a few days, households are asked to apply yoghurt to their windows in June.

Despite the oddity of many of the weirder tips that are often shared when the warm weather returns, such as using hot water bottles or tin foil on your windows, one of the weirdest ways to keep your home cool is definitely using a bowl of yoghurt. Experts say that you can apply yoghurt on your window to create an amateur sunshade on your window and keep your home cool in hot weather.

While the next few days are still expected to be wet and cool, with temperatures below June averages, temperatures are expected to return to 20-24C in the south of England next weekend.

When the yogurt dries, it forms a reflective film that looks a bit like frosted glass, and this prevents the sun from penetrating and heating the house.

It’s cheap, easy and doesn’t smell, and you can wash it again when the sunlight is gone.

According to heatwavetoolkit.com: “Is the sun shining through your windows? Paint a temporary coating on the outside of the glass. This will reflect some of the heat from direct sun entering the property and is much more effective than closing internal blinds or curtains. It will reflect heat while still allowing light in and will be ready to wash off when not needed.”

“But you don’t need to buy an expensive window covering product – just use a can of Danone.

“What’s cheaper, more readily available, and works better? Yogurt.

“Apply with a paint roller and reach the first floor windows with a telescoping pole. Leave a few gaps at eye level using masking tape to preserve the view.

“Once the heatwave is over, wipe it clean. It comes off easily. Do it yourself or invite your regular window cleaner.”

The account added: “Once the heatwave is over, wash it! Does it smell? No! Does it attract pests or insects? No! Give it a try and let us know how you get on.”

“With the masking tape we use it only costs us 60p per window.”
