Walker County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy indicted for allegedly giving false information to state

WALKER COUNTY, Ala. (WIAT) — Walker County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Chief Ralph Williams was indicted by a grand jury for allegedly providing false or misleading information to the state regarding a former employee.

Williams was indicted for allegedly lying to the Alabama Peace Officers Standards and Training Commission about the firing of one of the officers in June.

According to the indictment, Williams helped sheriff Nick Smith unlawfully appoint as a deputy sheriff an applicant who was not certified by the Alabama Peace Officer Standards and Training Commission. The indictment alleges that Williams assisted in signing the warrant or check for payment of the applicant’s salary, but Williams knew that the appointed applicant did not meet the required qualifications as a law enforcement officer.

Additionally, Williams is alleged to have knowingly provided APOSTC with false or misleading information that Andrew Neves-McDonald was terminated by the sheriff’s office on November 25, 2024, and that Neves-McDonald was still employed by WCSO.
