“I have never gone out without a man”: Indian househelp spends a day alone in Thailand and returns with new friends

He was nervous.
The domestic worker who traveled to Thailand with content creator Anish Bhagat recently shared what happened after he gave her an unusual challenge: Spend a whole day alone and do whatever you want.
There was only one problem.
“I never thought about what my interest was. I never had time for it,” Reshma admitted in the video, which she described as her first vlog.
For a moment he looked like he wasn’t even sure where to start.
“I’m just a housemaid, I don’t know anyone here, I don’t understand their language, I don’t know how to read,” she said. Then an idea came to his mind.
If he didn’t know the language, maybe he could talk food.
“I know how to cook. So I made puran poli to help me make friends.”
And with that he walked out.
Wearing her favorite sari and carrying a box of chocolates, Reshma set off for Bangkok alone. One of their first stops was a temple; Here he approached a German tourist and offered him sweet pancakes he brought from home.
The transformation only took a few minutes, but for Reshma it was much bigger.
“I was very scared. I never went out without a man,” she said.
As the day progressed, fear gradually gave way to curiosity.
At 7-Eleven, he met a woman named Popo, an influencer who chatted him up. Not long after, Popo invited him to lunch.
Even though the two came from completely different backgrounds, they spent time talking, eating together, and getting to know each other.
Somewhere in these conversations, Reshma shared a thought that resonated with many viewers.
“I don’t know why we women often forget about ourselves because of responsibilities.”
It was not presented as a lecture or speech. It seemed more like something he’d finally realized during a day to himself.
Then he sat down with a book in his hand — something he said he’d only seen people do in movies — and treated himself to mango sticky rice.
Nothing dramatic happened.
There is no life-changing explanation. There is no detailed itinerary.
A woman who spends just one day alone, tries new things, talks to strangers, and discovers that she is capable of much more than she thought.
At the end of the vlog, she was getting into a car with her hair flowing freely in the air.
“This is beautiful,” one person wrote.
Another said he got emotional watching a small moment in the video.
“When you let your hair down in the car, I had a watery and ahhh moment in my eyes.. I hope you have a lot of fun on this journey and discover a new you.. I’m sending you a lot of love.”
Others called it “the healthiest travel vlog ever,” while one viewer wrote: “This is SO cute and the only kind of vlogging I like.”
One comment that appeared again and again focused on a brief scene that lasted only a few seconds.
“The way she lets her hair down in the car… she’s truly a free butterfly.”
For many people watching, the story was never about Thailand.
It was about seeing someone who had spent most of her life caring for others have a day that was all her own.
