Heavy Rains Damage Crops On 30.85 Lakh Acres In Maharashtra, 13 Dead In Week

Mumbai: Between 1-22 September, the heavy rains in Maharashtra caused widespread damage to agriculture, and the estimated 30.85 Lakh acres affected agricultural lands. The state government approved 2,215 RS rubles for the affected farmers. Authorities, ruthless torrential rainfall last week said that 13 lives demanded.

Prime Minister Devendra Fadnavis chaired a cabinet meeting to review the situation on Monday. Deputy Prime Minister Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar and all the cabinet ministers will visit the floods in the coming days. On Wednesday, the Prime Minister is planned to visit Solapur and Latur regions.

At the cabinet meeting, several ministers reportedly called on to declare a “wet drought” throughout the state, referring to large -scale crop destruction and wetting of severe water.

According to the preliminary report of the Ministry of Agriculture, the Beed region was subjected to the worst loss of crops, damaging the 5.94 Lakh acres, then Dharashiv (4.53 lakh acres), Solapur (4.45 lakh acres) and Ahilian (4.21 lakh acres).

State center, asking for help, Dharashiv, Ahilianagar, Dhule, Parbhani, Jalgaon, Solapur and Beed, including intensely affected areas, demanded helicopters for search and rescue operations.

A senior official confirmed that 17 teams from the National Disaster Response Power (NDRF) and the State Disaster Response Power (SDRF) were deployed for aid operations. More than 700 people from flood hits have been evacuated and moved to safer places. The government has established temporary shelters and provides drinking water and food grains to displaced people.

“Three helicopters – two from the Air Force – Solapur and Dharashiv. In addition, two army teams are operating under the water,” he said.

Speaking to the media after the cabinet meeting, CM Fadnavis said that Disaster Management Minister Girish Majan watched the situation on the ground and demanded additional helicopters to help rescue operations. “So far, the state has approved 2,215 RS for financial assistance for the Farmers of Lakh. For this, 1.829 RS has already been paid at the district level. The remaining amount will be launched within the next 8 to 10 days,” he said.

Mr. Fadnavis made sure that the state would not be inadequate in relief to the affected farmers and citizens.
