Journalist Booked On Charges Of Sexually Harassing Sweeper

A 48-year-old woman, working as a sweeper in Vontimitta Gram Panchayat, filed a complaint of sexual harassment against a man reportedly working as a journalist.
According to the police, the woman approached superintendent of police N. Vishwanath, alleging that the accused had sexually harassed her and created problems in her job after she rejected his proposal.
Police said the complaint was forwarded to Vontimatta police station, where a case was registered and an investigation was initiated.
The accused was also allegedly involved in another incident of sexual harassment reported five days ago at Haritha Hotel in Vontimitta. In this case, the victim reportedly bit his tongue in self-defense, causing serious injury. He is currently undergoing treatment at Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences Hospital.
According to sources, the whereabouts of the woman involved in the Haritha Hotel incident is still unknown.
ACB arrests junior assistant AMC Dy EE
Anti-Corruption Bureau sleuths on Monday arrested an Anantapur Municipal Corporation assistant executive engineer and an assistant for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹25,000 to allow an exhibition.
ACB DSP Prasad Reddy said that exhibition organizer R. Raghuprasad Rao approached the office after AMC DEE and in-charge municipal health officer Bumannagari Lakshmi Narasimha allegedly demanded ₹30,000 and later accepted ₹25,000.
Lakshmi Narasimha reportedly instructed the organizer to hand over the money to junior assistant A. Sandeep Chowtha. ACB sleuths trapped Sandeep Chowtha while he was accepting the bribe at the AMC office and later arrested both the officials.
They were produced before the Kurnool ACB Court.
10 years in prison for 4 tick smugglers
The First Additional District Sessions Court in Anantapur on Monday sentenced four tick dealers to 10 years rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹ 1 lakh each.
According to police, Shikari Nagu, Budaga Jangam Narasappa, Mekala Prasad and SM Nasir Hussain were arrested by Guntakal One Town police on February 23, 2024, for allegedly selling marijuana near Shikari Colony on Alur Road. The police seized 6 kilos of marijuana from them.
After the accusations were proven, Judge C. Satyavani convicted the defendants for the crime of illegal transportation and sale of marijuana.
Anantapur SP P. Jagadeesh appreciated the police monitoring team and warned that strict action would be taken against those involved in narcotics trade.
VRO enters ACB network
Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials arrested village revenue officer Koppisetti Chitti Babu of Peda Theenarla village in Anakapalle district for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹1.5 lakh from M. Srinivasa Rao.
The complainant sought mutation of 5.57 acres of land acquired by Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation for a steel plant project, officials said. VRO allegedly demanded bribes to process the mutation of the remaining 3.43 acres.

Young man died by suicide
It was claimed that 22-year-old R. Mahesh died by suicide in Maharajupeta village of Vizianagaram district. Police said he was depressed due to financial problems.
Social boycott reports on inter-caste marriage are fake: DSP
Police have dismissed fake reports doing the rounds on social media that a family in Uttarapalem village in Veeravasaram mandal of West Godavari district was socially boycotted after a teenager entered into an inter-caste marriage.
Raghuveer Vishnu said that both the families consented to the marriage and performed it in the presence of relatives and friends. He also added that the groom’s family hosted a large reception attended by guests on Monday.
The DSP said that the police had not received any complaint regarding any social boycott. Following the viral posts, the police launched an investigation and found that the news was false.
Police officer killed in street fight in Kakinada
Godavari Nageswara Rao, a 46-year-old constable of the 2000 batch of Andhra Pradesh Special Police (APSP), died following a street fight near Kakinada’s Gandhinagar around midnight on Sunday. Nageswara Rao, a native of Nellipudi village residing in Ramanayyapeta, was involved in a physical fight that included punches, which ultimately turned out to be fatal.
Two Town police Ch. Manikanta Kumar was riding his bike near Red Cross Street when he was stopped by Nageswara Rao, who was allegedly drunk. A physical altercation ensued in which Manikanta Kumar knocked Nageswara Rao to the ground before fleeing the scene. According to police, Manikanta Kumar assumed that Nageswara Rao would return home and was unaware that he died during the fight.
Two Towns circle inspector M. Appala Naidu confirmed that a case has been registered against Manikanta Kumar and an investigation is on. Forensic teams collected evidence from the scene. Late Nageswara Rao is survived by his wife Varalakshmi and two sons: MBA student Rahul Yadav and B.Sc. Harshit Yadav. student. It was noted that police officer Nageswara Rao was previously suspended for misconduct and has been away from duty for the last 10 days.
43 people received yellow cards in the Almaspet match; police investigation continues
Police filed a case against 43 youths in connection with the clashes that broke out three days ago in the Almaspet area of Kadapa town. The cases were registered at Kadapa Iki Towns Police Station.
It was reported that the violence between Hindu and Muslim youth due to flexible banners caused tension in the region. A department inspector was seriously injured during the incident. According to the police, the accused include 26 Muslim youths and 17 youths from the Hindu community. Cases were registered under about nine sections of the law, with some people facing two to three cases.
All defendants have been detained and their interrogations are ongoing. Police are investigating whether there were those who provoked the clashes or whether the incident occurred spontaneously during a period of increased tension. Further investigation is ongoing to determine the exact cause and identify individuals who may have deliberately incited the violence.
4 workers fell ill due to toxic gas at VSP thermal power plant
Four contract employees of Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL), the corporate body of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP), fell unconscious at their workplace (Thermal Power Project) on Monday after inhaling carbon monoxide gas. It was stated that the condition of the injured, who was immediately taken to a private hospital in Gajuwaka in Vizag city, was stable.
