Trial date set in Tyler McCain murder case tied to wife Nikki McCain’s death

A jury trial has been set for November 18 in the murder trial of Tyler McCain on charges that he killed his wife, Nikki Cheng Saelee McCain.

Tyler McCain repeated his not guilty pleas during a court appearance in Shasta County Superior Court on Tuesday, October 7.

The upcoming trial and judge have not yet been determined, the Shasta County District Attorney’s Office said Tuesday.

Tyler McCain remains in custody at the Shasta County Jail, where he is being held without bail.

The Shasta County man was charged with one count of murder and a special circumstance in which the murder was committed for the purpose of testifying. He is also indicted on domestic violence charges, including corporal injury to a spouse, false imprisonment, criminal threats, and forcible assault likely to cause great bodily injury.

At the end of an eight-day preliminary hearing in Shasta County Superior Court, Judge Thomas L. Bender declared there was sufficient evidence to bring Tyler McCain to trial.

Investigators believe Tyler McCain killed his wife to prevent her from testifying in the domestic violence case she filed against him.

Nikki McCain disappeared in May 2024. His case was ruled a murder 10 months later. On August 21, Tyler McCain was arrested and charged with murder. He pleaded not guilty to the charges the next day.
