LB Nagar ‘Suicide’ Turns Out To Be Murder

Hyderabad: The suspicious death, initially reported as death by suicide in LB Nagar, turned into a murder investigation after evidence revealed what police described as a staged crime and led to the arrest of the victim’s wife.

According to LB Nagar inspector K. Vinod Kumar, the case came to light on June 20 when the police received a call on 100 dialing about the death of a man in a rented house in NTR Nagar. A case of suspicious death was recorded.

“The incident appeared to be a suicide, but some aspects required closer examination,” the inspector said. The body was sent to Osmaniye General Hospital for autopsy, where hanging was ruled out and death by asphyxiation was confirmed. The findings contradicted the wife’s claim of suicide.

During interrogation, the victim’s 33-year-old wife confessed. Police said she was having an extramarital affair and frequently quarreled with her husband. Investigators allege the woman pressed herself against him, sat on his chest and strangled him with a white chunni during an argument on June 20. To allay suspicion, he tied the body to an iron bed with the same cloth, depicting suicide.

The accused was arrested near Alkapuri. Police seized chunni and the mobile phone used to communicate with her alleged lover shortly after the incident. He was sent to the courthouse. Investigators are investigating whether others had knowledge of or were involved in the crime.
