Rain continued to wreak havoc across the country on Friday; More landslides in the mountainous states of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh have blocked major highways and flooded rivers in northeastern states, forcing authorities to evacuate people to safer areas.

Heavy and extremely heavy rains in Himachal Pradesh disrupted normal life in many places, blocking roads, damaging bridges and uprooting trees. Schools remained closed in many parts of the state.

Officials said passengers were facing inconvenience as 27 connecting roads in Shimla were closed to vehicular traffic.

Rockfall incidents were reported along the Kalka-Shimla National Highway, between Waknaghat and Kandaghat and between Dharampur and Chakki Mod. Officials said there is a danger of landslides on the Sangla bridge in Kinnaur district, which was built with the help of BRO and Indian Army last year, and further damage to the bridge could cut off the Sangla Valley.
