Nalgonda: Uttam Pushes Canal Upgrades

What are you doing? Irrigation minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy on Tuesday reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to provide irrigation facilities to farmers by modernizing existing projects and introducing new lift irrigation schemes.
Speaking after unfurling the National Flag at the Telangana Formation Day celebrations held in Suryapet, he said the government had sanctioned ₹ 32.48 crore for lining of Nagarjunasagar left canal, ₹ 222 crore for Mukthyala branch canal and ₹ 53.6 crore for Janpahad branch canal. Another ₹39.57 crore has been approved for repair and lining works of major and minor canals in Kothagudem and ₹47.90 crore for Redlakunta major canal. Tenders have been called for the works, he added.
He reminded that ₹75.3 crore has been sanctioned for modernization of canals under the Musi project, works worth ₹56.1 crore have already been completed and the rest is in progress. ₹266.3 crore has been sanctioned for the construction of 39 check dams in Suryapet district, of which 31 have been completed. He also listed the elevator irrigation projects carried out in the region.
Improved irrigation facilities will expand cultivation, he said, noting that the government has sanctioned ₹ 126 crore for the establishment of an agricultural college at Makhdumnagar in Huzurnagar. Undergraduate education will be provided in the college, which will be built on 100 acres of land. (Agriculture) courses and conducting research.
He announced that a proposal has been sent for a trauma care center in Suryapet with an expenditure of ₹ 8.5 crore. The government has also sanctioned ₹1.25 crore for a dialysis center and blood storage unit at the district hospital in Huzurnagar and the work is nearing completion. On the occasion, the minister distributed sanction letters of Indiramma houses to the selected beneficiaries.
Suryapet district collector Tejas Nandlal Pawar and superintendent of police K. Narsimha also attended the celebrations.
