Parliament Monsoon Session: Opposition walks out of all-party meeting over presence of rebel Trinamool faction

Opposition parties walked out of an all-party meeting organized by the Center on Sunday, July 19, 2026, to protest the presence of a separatist TMC group that claimed to have joined the Nationalist Citizens Party of India (NCPI), a Tripura-based party, ahead of the Monsoon Session of Parliament.

They returned to the meeting a few minutes later.

Trinamool Congress leader Mahua Moitra said, “The merger of 20 MPs with NCPI was not approved by the Speaker.”

“According to the information provided by the Lok Sabha desk office, the strength of TMC is 28. This merger was not accepted. Therefore, it would not be right to call them for a meeting,” he said.

The government is expected to outline its legislative agenda during the meeting. Opposition leaders stated that they will raise a number of issues, including the alleged Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Foundation donation scam, exam paper leaks, delimitation and the role of the Lok Sabha Speaker.
