Rain brings hope of solving missing boy mystery

Heavy rain at a remote station has led police to renew their search for a four-year-old boy who has been missing for more than eight months.

Gus Lamont was last seen by his grandmother on September 27, 2025, playing at Oak Park Station farm in the South Australian outback.

SA Police said major crime detectives and specialist officers resumed searching the property on Monday “to take advantage of opportunities that may arise as a result of recent heavy rainfall at the property”.

Police said Task Force Horizon will be “searching numerous locations” for evidence over the next three days.

On February 5, police declared the boy’s disappearance a major crime and said a resident of the remote station was a suspect in the case and his probable death.

They confirmed his grandparents, mother and younger brother were on the property at the time of his disappearance, but stressed his parents were not suspects.

The disappearance sparked an intense search covering an area of approximately 500 square kilometres, involving hundreds of police and volunteers as well as air support and mounted units; however, these searches were unable to locate Gus or any of his belongings.

In February, the boy’s parents, Josh Lamont and Jess Murray, said they were united in grief and search for answers about what happened to Gus, who meant everything to them.

“Our lives have been shattered and every moment we spend without him is unbearable,” they said.

“We know someone out there may have information. If anyone knows what happened, we’re asking that person, or anyone else who may have seen or heard anything, to please come forward.”

Anyone with information regarding Gus’s disappearance is encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or www.crimestopperssa.com.au.
