Nanos said Thursday that the ransom note they first investigated contained no information indicating how the family should contact the people responsible for the kidnapping.
Meanwhile, a person was arrested for sending a suspected fake ransom note, and the sheriff identified him as a fraudster. A man named Derrick Callella was arrested in Los Angeles on Thursday following allegations that he sent text messages to Nancy Guthrie’s family members seeking information about sending bitcoin, authorities said.
The messages are not believed to be linked to a separate ransom demand made Monday in the case of Guthrie’s disappearance.
Nancy Guthrie was last seen Saturday evening at her home in Catalina Foothills, an affluent community about six miles northeast of Tucson, according to authorities. Family members dropped him off around 9.30pm.
On Sunday morning, church members noticed he was not home and contacted his family. A missing person report was filed in the afternoon after relatives called 911.
