Second murder arrest over 1998 teen disappearance

A second man has been arrested on suspicion of murdering a teenager who disappeared 28 years ago.

Donna Keogh, 17, was last seen in Middlesbrough on 28 April 1998 and is known to have traveled to Leeds later that year. Detectives said it was “strongly suspected” that he was murdered shortly after he disappeared.

Cleveland Police said a 62-year-old man was arrested in the Manchester area and will be interviewed in police custody.

Earlier this year officers arrested a 64-year-old man from the Leeds area, also on suspicion of murder. Police said the man was released on bail while the investigation continues.

Despite decades of search, his body was never found.

Assistant senior investigating officer Det Insp Evan Kirtley said his family had lived in “unbearable uncertainty” for nearly 30 years.

“Someone out there knows what happened and can tell us to give the family some comfort and peace after all this time.”

Detectives investigating her disappearance and suspected murder have been carrying out inquiries in the Leeds area in recent months.

Police added that the man was arrested on Friday morning.
