Snow alert Winter Storm Weather Forecast: Winter storm weather forecast: East Coast could see more snow, sleet, and rain – here’s what to expect this weekend

Winter Storm Forecast for January 31 and February 1
Allison Santorelli, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service, part of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, said weather models show the potential for a new storm system to develop around the weekend of Jan. 31 and Feb. 1, USA Today reported.
While details remain unclear, the system could bring snow, sleet or rain to areas already dealing with snow, ice and extreme cold.

Low Pressure System Could Intensify Winter Effects Along East Coast
While freezing temperatures are certainly expected to continue, Santorelli noted that a low pressure system developing along the coast could contribute to winter weather effects in parts of the East hit by the storm that passed on Jan. 26, according to a USA Today report.
Previous Winter Storm Deployed More than 20 Inches of Snow and Ice
The previous storm dumped more than 20 inches of snow and sleet along the coast and caused more than a million power outages. Behind that, a wave of arctic air dropped temperatures sharply across large swaths of the country, from Texas to Maine and south to Central Florida. Below zero wind chills were expected across much of the United States on the morning of January 27th.

Forecasters Warn of High Uncertainty in Storm Path and Strength
Forecasters warn that it’s too early to know exactly how the next system will behave.
“Right now it’s impossible to determine where the storm will set up, where the precipitation will fall, and what type of precipitation there might be,” Santorelli said, according to USA Today. “There’s a lot of uncertainty about where it will track and how much precipitation the East may receive.”
Gulf Coast and East Coast Could See Impacts as Early as Friday
Early model guides suggest parts of the Gulf Coast and East Coast could begin seeing impacts as early as Friday, Jan. 30, according to AccuWeather. “How quickly the storm strengthens will be a determining factor in the storm’s final track this weekend and whether it moves toward the East Coast,” AccuWeather’s long-range outlook expert Paul Pasterok said, as quoted by USA Today.
Rain Possible in the South, Winter Mix Possible in Southeastern States
AccuWeather predicts that rain will most likely fall south of Interstate 10 from Louisiana to Florida, while more northern parts of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Georgia could see a mix of snow. Rain is possible in Florida and wintry weather is possible in the Carolinas as the system moves east through Saturday.
