Author Helen Fielding has always been careful to stay away from her comic book Bridget Jones, insisting that her books are fiction, not autobiography.
But when the 67-year-old author went to a US mountain resort during the Christmas holidays, she had what can only be described as a ‘Bridget moment’.
Fielding said in a social media post that he “narrowly escaped the dangerous snowboarding of the Wild West” in gorgeous Jackson Hole, Wyoming, but the photo actually shows him riding his snowmobile to his destination.
‘I finally hit the one in front and caused the snowmobile to start a domino effect,’ he admitted. ‘No one was injured except the snowmobile and my sense of practical competence.’
Of course, such a mishap is entirely different from poor old Bridget, who takes to skiing backwards, out of control, after being abandoned on the slopes by her lover Mr Darcy, the character once rumored to be inspired by Sir Keir Starmer.
A few days after announcing the accident, Fielding re-channelled his creation by making a hilarious list of his New Year’s resolutions on Instagram.

These included: ‘Loose [sic] 7 kilos and stomach while being body positive’, ‘Make a pickleball team. (Also find out what it is)’ and the very relatable one: ‘Go to the gym three times a week, not just lay in the steam bath’.
Fielding also revealed last week that Bridget’s infamous “blue soup” incident occurred in real life, telling The Queen’s Reading Room podcast that she once served strangely colored vichyssoise at a dinner party with vegetables tied together in the pot with blue string.
