Tennessee student killed, 4 wounded in pre-prom park shooting

One student was killed and four others were injured Friday night in a shooting at a Tennessee park where teenagers had gathered to pose for photos before prom, authorities said.
Officers responded to the 900 block of Key Corner Street, Webb Banks Passive Park in Brownsville, about 60 miles northeast of Memphis, and found five people suffering from gunshot wounds. All five victims were taken to a local hospital, where one was later pronounced dead, a Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) spokesperson told Fox News Digital.
“TBI special agents are working with the Brownsville Police Department to investigate a homicide that left multiple people injured,” the spokesperson said.

Witnesses said that just before the shooting, the park was filled with more than 100 students and several vehicles for a “photo op.” Police and emergency teams arrived at the scene within minutes. FOX 13.
Authorities have not yet released any information about a possible suspect or motive.

Haywood County Schools identified the victim as student Saturah Hayes and announced schools would be closed Monday to give students, staff and families time to grieve.
The school district also said the prom ended early following the incident.

“Saturah was a hard-working student with a positive attitude. She was full of hopes and plans for the future, full of potential that was now unrealized,” the district said in a statement on Facebook. he wrote.
“We can only hope to lift up his family as they try to get through this period of deep pain. We mourn not only the loss of a young life, but also the unrealized future. We will miss him terribly.”
Haywood County Sheriff Billy Garrett Jr. called the attack a “senseless tragic event” that spoiled what was supposed to be a celebration.
“I will dedicate this sheriff’s office and all of our resources to obtaining justice for his family. Our county is a great place to live and a strong, close-knit community, especially in times like these,” Garrett Jr. said. he said.

Brownsville Mayor William D. Rawls echoed those sentiments, calling the attack “senseless and heartbreaking.”

“I offer my deepest condolences and prayers to the family of my missing loved one and to those injured,” Rawls said. “Please know that I am heartbroken. Our entire community grieves with you and we stand with you during this incredibly difficult time.”
The Brownsville Police Department did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.
