US President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Thursday (April 30) aimed at expanding access to retirement plans for workers without employer access through a new website, a White House official said. Trump said Americans would be able to access retirement accounts similar to those offered to federal workers through the Thrift Savings Plan, calling the move “truly revolutionary” and adding: “In other words, they’re going to get rich.” Semaphore first reported the order, saying it had instructed the U.S. Treasury Department to launch the website TrumpIRA.gov by January. On that date, low-income workers would receive a “savings match” under legislation passed under former Democratic President Joe Biden.
