Christian Horner return to F1 difficult – Toto Wolff

Horner and Wolff, who led Red Bull to eight drivers’ championships and six constructors’ championships, have been at odds for much of the last decade.

In January, Alpine said Horner was among “multiple interested parties” discussing investment with the team.

Wolff and Mercedes are also considering purchasing private investment company Otro Capital’s 24% stake in Alpine.

Wolff said he had “no connection” with Horner regarding this investment and that it would be “pretty sad” if it were to be considered.

“I’m undecided about this [Horner returning to F1]. There are missing personalities in sports. And his personality was obviously very controversial, and that’s a good thing for the sport,” Wolff said.

“I said [Ferrari team principal] Fred Vasseur says he needs the good, the bad and the ugly. And now only the good and the ugly remain. The evil is gone.

“Can I think of him as an ally or someone who shares the same goals? I don’t think so.”

“But even when I experience the greatest disappointment and anger towards him, you have to remind yourself that even your worst enemy has a best friend, so there has to be some kindness, too.

“If there hadn’t been all these years of competitive rivalry and there was more water downriver, I’m sure I could have hung out and laughed with him over dinner.”

Red Bull’s Max Verstappen has won four straight drivers’ titles from 2021 to 2024, ending Mercedes’ dominance over Lewis Hamilton, who has been controversially denied five straight titles.

Horner, who said he had “unfinished business” in F1, was overlooked for taking over Aston Martin last year.

“Those years were very violent, very violent, and there were things that even today I don’t understand why he did it,” Wolff said. he said.

“I don’t know if he’s found his way back and what mission he’s in. I certainly don’t want any bad things from him. And we have to trust each other. There aren’t many team bosses who do what he does.”
