TV host Lorraine Kelly pays tribute to father after ‘shock’ death

TV presenter Lorraine Kelly has paid tribute to her 84-year-old father following his “shock” death in East Kilbride.

It is understood John Kelly was found injured outdoors on a road near his hometown St Leonard’s Square shopping center on Saturday morning.

Kelly, 66, said in her social media post that her father was “in poor health but still shocked by his death.”

Police Scotland said the death was being treated as “unexplained but not suspicious” and the family was being supported by officers.

In a statement on Instagram, the ITV presenter wrote: “Such sad news. My dad has passed away.

“I mourn the loss of the man who bought me a telescope when I was five, who watched the moon landings with me, who taught me to always be curious and interested in everything.

“He was in poor health, but it was still a shock. We will miss you, dad.”

The Scottish presenter said he and his brother Graham were looking after their mother and wanted the family’s privacy.

Fans and friends of the celebrities, including TV presenter Davina McCall, Loose Women panellist Denise Welch and sports presenter Gabby Logan, whose father is former footballer Terry Yorath, shared their condolences. He died this week too.

Kelly has been a host and journalist for over 37 years. She has hosted ITV morning show Lorraine since 2010.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “We were called at around 7am on Saturday to reports of a man found injured on the road.

“The 84-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.”

Police said a report on the death would be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.
