Happy Juneteenth to everyone out there. I’m sure these words will offend a few readers, but honestly, I go on every federal holiday because it means we have some time to enjoy whatever we want. I know not every company observes it, but who wouldn’t want a day off in mid-June? Today is a little more special because we also have the USA World Cup match.
My first football article was about the US World Cup team, and not only did the team win, so did we. I was wrong about the final score, but I was right that Team USA would win. They managed to topple Paraguay. I think the most enjoyable part of the match – apart from the victory – was that the audience was really interested in the game. I know it’s easy when you’re scoring goals and your team is winning, but America is not a football country. It was fun to watch to see the crowd go wild and give the team more energy.

Now they have a test against Team Australia. If we’re going to base this on their last game in an international friendly, this should be a win for Team USA. They played in October, so the teams are largely the same. But these games are not always predictive. To keep the momentum going, Team USA will need to stay aggressive on the attack. If they can strategically push the ball down the field, they need to get a good look at a goalkeeper who might be beaten.
Team Australia achieved a good result in their first match, winning against Türkiye. I don’t hate the Turkish team. They also have good talent. Some matches in the World Cup may be canceled due to major incompatibility. This is not the case here. Australia were methodical in their attack and won the match 2-0.
PATRIOTISM IS GREAT, BUT MAKING MONEY IS BETTER: ‘EXPLOSION OF THE PEOPLE’ IN THE USA AND AUSTRALIA TEAM IN THE 2026 WORLD CUP

If you look at the statistics of their first match, there is a huge argument that Australia had a chance of winning the match. They took half of the shots on Türkiye’s goal and had only 28% possession of the ball. Thus, they were able to make the most of the opportunity they had. They committed 12 fouls while only 4 against Türkiye. I think a fair amount of credit must be given to the Australian defense, given that they were able to stop all eight shots on goal, and if the opposition have the ball that often it means they need to stop pressing constantly.
If Australia can slow the game down against America, they might have another chance. I don’t think this is the most impressive team in the tournament, but they don’t seem to be making too many mistakes. Will the kangaroo clan be able to benefit from the mistakes of the USA today?

It is possible. The USA started the scoring with an own goal, then scored two more goals in the first half. They created great opportunities but missed some. Their defense faced only one real attack and their goalkeeper stopped the ball. Australia need to be more aggressive than they were in the first game but I don’t think that’s their nature. I expect Team USA to win, but I think it will be a lower scoring game. Give me under 2.5.
