West Bengal Cabinet 2026: From Dilip Ghosh to Agnimitra Paul, Ministers who were sworn in along with Suvendu Adhikari

The newly formed government on Saturday (May 9, 2026) inducted five new faces into the State Cabinet, with Suvendu Adhikari being sworn in as West Bengal Chief Minister after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured a landslide victory with 207 seats in the 294-member Assembly.

The grand swearing-in ceremony, held at Kolkata’s iconic Brigade Parade, witnessed the presence of many senior BJP leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Ministers Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, JP Nadda and Dharmendra Pradhan. Several BJP Chief Ministers including Tripura’s Manik Saha, Assam’s Himanta Biswa Sarma, Delhi’s Rekha Gupta, Uttar Pradesh’s Yogi Adityanath, Rajasthan’s Madan Lal Sharma, Madhya Pradesh’s Mohan Yadav and Pushkar Singh Dhami also graced the ceremony.

Mr. Adhikari scored a massive electoral victory from both Nandigram and Bhabanipur, winning by a margin of 9,500 and 15,000 votes respectively. His election victory in Bhabanipur gained further significance by defeating incumbent Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. In Nandigram, Mr. Adhikari defeated his rival, All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) candidate Pabitra Kar, once considered his staunch lieutenant, with a comfortable majority.

Below is the list of Cabinet Ministers appointed in the BJP government in West Bengal today:

  1. Dilip Ghosh: Dilip Ghosh, a senior BJP leader and former West Bengal BJP president, was inducted into the State Cabinet on Saturday (May 9). He clinched victory from Kharagpur seat in the 2026 West Bengal Assembly polls, defeating the rival TMC candidate by over 30,000 votes. Widely credited with expanding the party’s reach in West Bengal, Mr. Ghosh played a decisive role in gaining the BJP’s footprint from 2019 onwards. Mr. Ghosh had previously served as the BJP’s West Bengal unit chief between 2015 and 2021; This period witnessed the BJP becoming a reckoning force in the state. He was elected MP from Medinipur in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
  2. Agnimitra Paul: Fashion designer-turned-legislator Agnimitra Paul has secured victory in Asansol Dakshin seat with 40,839 votes in the 2026 West Bengal Assembly polls. An important face of the West Bengal BJP, he was inducted into the new Cabinet on Saturday, May 9. After building a successful career in fashion design, she joined the BJP in 2019 and became one of the prominent women leaders in the state. Ms. Paul had previously served as president of the BJP Mahila Morcha in West Bengal and is currently the state vice-president of the party.
  3. Ashok Kirtania: BJP staunch supporter Ashok Kirtania emerged victorious in Bangaon Uttar by 40,670 votes. His appointment to the state cabinet is expected to provide a significant boost to the Matua community, which plays an important role among the state’s electorate. Mr. Kirtania also clinched victory from Bangaon seat in the 2021 Assembly polls.
  4. Kshudiram Tudu: Kshudiram Tudu, a former school teacher, has been elected to West Bengal’s new Cabinet as the first-ever BJP MLA from tribal-dominated Ranibandh (ST) constituency in Bankura district. During his tenure as the BJP leader, Mr. Tudu played a key role in championing the party’s promises among tribal communities in the Jangalmahal region. He is known for raising local issues related to tribal rights and rural development in tribal areas in West Bengal.
  5. Nisith Pramanik: Mr. Pramanik, a key face of the BJP from North Bengal (the party’s stronghold), is the former Union Minister of State for Home Affairs and Youth Affairs and Sports. He emerged victorious from Mathabhanga seat by over 57,000 votes in the recently concluded West Bengal Assembly polls. His entry into West Bengal’s new Cabinet is likely to consolidate the BJP’s supporter base in North Bengal, where it has significant support from young voters. Mr. Pramanik was a TMC leader before joining the BJP in 2019. He emerged victorious from the Cooch Behar seat during the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, becoming one of the youngest Ministers in the Narendra Modi Government in the 2021 Cabinet reshuffle.
