West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Saturday, May 24, 2026, pointed out that the State gained notoriety due to various recruitment scams during the previous Trinamool Congress regime and added that his government will present a new recruitment policy in the next Budget session of the assembly.
“A Bill to enact a new recruitment policy will be introduced in the next Budget session of the West Bengal Assembly,” the Prime Minister said while attending the Rojgar Mela in Sealdah on Saturday, May 24, 2026. The Budget Session of the West Bengal Assembly will begin on June 18.
The third term of the Trinamool Congress regime from 2021 to 2026 has witnessed various recruitment scams such as teachers’ recruitment scam and municipal recruitment scam involving allegations of transferring jobs for monetary gain. The Supreme Court had canceled the jobs and non-teaching positions of approximately 26,000 teachers in 2025 due to irregularities in the recruitment process. Allegations of corruption in government affairs have hurt the Trinamool Congress and the party lost the recently concluded assembly elections to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
“Even the examination centers have been tarnished resulting in Eastern Railways, South Eastern Railways and Northeast Frontier Railways not conducting recruitment exams in the state,” Mr. Adhikari said. The Chief Minister said that West Bengal youth appeared for exams in neighboring states of Bihar, Assam and Odisha.
The Chief Minister expressed the view that a carbon copy of the OMR (Optical Sign Reader) of the written examination conducted in the state should be given to every examinee.
“Our aim will be to give the carbon copy of the OMR to the examinees. This is a very bad practice (not issuing the OMR form) with a malicious intent. Such practices have been resorted to promote nepotism and corruption,” Mr. Adhikari said.
To maintain transparency, the Prime Minister said more emphasis should be given to written examination rather than interviews. “We want transparent written exams for recruitment, proper evaluation of academic excellence and implementation of the mandatory 100-mark list. The government also wants to reduce the percentage of marks allocated for oral exams and publish candidates’ scores on the websites of recruitment agencies,” Mr. Adhikari said.
