West Bengal to observe state day on June 20 from this year

He said that June 20 was celebrated as “Bengal Day” in the then Bengal Assembly, under the leadership of Syama Prasad Mookerjee, after voting on a resolution paving the way for the partition of Bengal and formation of the state of West Bengal in 1947.

“From this year, June 20 will be officially celebrated as West Bengal Day,” Ghosh said at the press conference after the Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari.
The BJP was marking June 20 as ‘West Bengal Day’ even though the previous Trinamool Congress government celebrated this day on Poila Boisakh, the Bengali new year day, which falls on April 14 or 15.
Ghosh, the state’s panchayat minister, said that under the supervision of the Information and Cultural Affairs department, the 125th birth anniversary of Jana Sangha founder Syama Prasad Mookerjee will be celebrated with year-round programs across the state.

“A 10-member committee will be formed for the year-long celebration, with ministers, MPs and other eminent persons as members,” Ghosh said. he said.
He said that a ceremony will be held on July 6 at the selected land where the Mookerjee statue will be erected.
The minister said the ‘Maa Ahaar’ scheme to provide meals for Rs 5, which was operational at 390 locations, will now be available at 500 locations.
The TMC government had launched an egg-rice meal program at Rs 5 per person under the Maa Canteen project. The current BJP government is also providing fish feed at the same rate.
“Now the program will be available under the name ‘Maa Ahaar’ at 500 locations across the state,” Ghosh added.
