Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday (October 16, 2025) said that a ruthless approach should be taken against economic criminals, cyber criminals, those involved in terrorist activities and all other fugitives to ensure that they are brought before the Indian justice system.

Addressing a conference on ‘Extradition of Fugitives – Challenges and Strategies’ organized by CBI here, Mr. Shah said that a zero tolerance approach should be adopted not only towards corruption, crime and terrorism but also towards criminals operating from outside India.

He said that efforts should be made to bring all fugitives under the scope of law and to establish a definitive mechanism for this.

“A ruthless approach must be taken against every fugitive, whether they are economic criminals, cyber criminals, those involved in terrorist activities or part of organized crime networks, to ensure that they are brought before the Indian justice system. It is time for this,” he said.

The Home Minister asserted that the Narendra Modi government has taken foolproof measures to ensure that no criminal escapes the clutches of the law.

“Under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, a strong India is moving forward not only to secure its borders but also to strengthen the rule of law,” he said.

Mr. Shah said that no matter how fast the crime and the tactics of criminals, getting justice must be even faster.

He also asked all States to establish at least one prison cell of international standards in their States, to counter allegations of poor prison standards by fugitives in foreign courts.
