Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s marriage ‘heartbreak’ as ‘bitterness’ rears its head | Royal | News

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are no strangers to controversy, backlash or outrage; But insiders suggest that the constant turmoil they face serves as a unifying element in their marriage. The Duchess of Sussex, 44, faced a fresh wave of public criticism last week after choosing not to wear a poppy to two major events over the Remembrance Day weekend, including Kris Jenner’s star-studded birthday celebration.

Various newspapers cited a source who claimed poppies were not as “widely available” in the US as they were across the UK and Commonwealth, prompting comments that Harry, 41, pinned a poppy to his tuxedo at the Baby2Baby Gala they both attended. But according to royal expert Duncan Larcombe, the Sussexes are so used to dealing with criticism that it strengthens their bond as a couple.

“There were times in their marriage when Meghan and Harry were against the world,” he said. “One clear theme from the very beginning, from the moment they first met, was how protective Harry was of Meghan. He is a very devoted husband, much more so than most because Meghan receives so much negative publicity, especially online.”

“We’ve seen Harry support her in court cases and also speak out against people who have wronged Meghan, including Catherine, Princess of Wales. There has been a lot of heartbreak in their marriage too, but their similar past experiences and traumas are what holds them together and strengthens them.”

At the 70th birthday celebration of Kardashian-Jenner family matriarch Kris, Harry and Meghan met with the likes of Amazon co-founder Jeff Bezos and his wife Lauren Sánchez Bezos, singers Beyoncé and Mariah Carey, as well as Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla Chan.

Royal watchers interpreted their presence as another indication that the couple saw their lives and future as firmly established in Hollywood rather than within the Royal family.

The duo, who met about ten years ago, were involved in family disputes and this caused estrangement.

However, Duncan said: Mirror The appeal of moving to America and getting away from the royal family was to protect six-year-old Archie and four-year-old Lilibet from some of their own painful childhood experiences.

“Neither had an ideal upbringing. Both parents’ marriages ended in divorce and, of course, Harry’s mother, Princess Diana, died shortly after that. There is trauma and heartbreak for both of them, and that has bonded them together.”

“Harry is, by his own admission, a damaged person and has had difficulties. This is no surprise given his extraordinary upbringing and ‘party Prince’ profile. There have been many things in Harry’s life that Meghan might be upset about, and so she may feel like she wants to protect him and look out for him.”

He added: “Meghan made sure her father, half-sister and brother became outspoken critics and publicly condemned her. Harry didn’t have to deal with that, but that was only because the royal family didn’t comment on these matters and so they kept quiet.”

“That doesn’t mean there’s any less resentment between Harry and his family, so he and Meghan have that in common and can see where the other is coming from.”
