Princess Anne resumed her duties on Thursday, just hours after the arrest of her younger brother Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor. The Princess Royal traveled to West Yorkshire to visit HMP Leeds as patron of the Butler Trust, a charity that celebrates and supports excellence among staff working in prisons, probation and youth justice.

King Charles’ sister was seen arriving at the West Yorkshire prison in a black Range Rover, accompanied by police, at around 2.30pm. About a dozen staff from nearby charities stood by the roadside hoping to catch a glimpse of him as he headed towards the royal palace.

Kelly Manton, from the West Yorkshire Community Chaplaincy Project Resettlement Service, said she was “saddened” to learn of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s arrest.

“It’s sad in a way that it’s gotten to this point, given the stature of the Royal Family and everything. He’s a huge figure in the UK and the Royal Family,” he told reporters.

“It’s just a sad situation and I feel for the Royal Family that this is happening to them.” Rahima Adam from the same organization said: “This is disappointing news. I don’t think anyone wants to hear this, so it’s very sad.”

The princess then traveled to Guiseley, where she visited the Abraham Moon and Sons Limited Mill as part of her role as president of the UK Fashion and Textile Association.

Hours earlier, at 8am, police went to Anne’s brother’s temporary home in Wood Farm, Norfolk, and arrested the disgraced royal before making an official statement at 10am. He was released after an 11-hour investigation.

In a statement, Thames Valley Police said: “Thames Valley Police can provide an update on the investigation into misconduct in public office.

“On Thursday 19/2 we arrested a man in his sixties from Norfolk on suspicion of misconduct in public office. The arrested man has been released pending investigation. We can also confirm that our searches in Norfolk have now concluded.”

Anne did not comment on her brother’s arrest, but their brother King did in a statement released around noon.

The statement said: “I learned with deep concern the news about Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and the suspicion of misconduct in public office.

“The next process now is a full, fair and proper process in which this matter will be investigated appropriately and by the relevant authorities. In this matter, as I have said before, we have our full and wholehearted support and cooperation. Let me be clear: The law must take its course. As this process continues, it would not be appropriate for me to comment further on this matter. In the meantime, my family and I will continue our duty and service to all of you. Charles R.”

Andrew has denied any wrongdoing regarding his Epstein connections but has not responded directly to the latest allegations.
