Border Force uncover 34kg of cocaine in Fremantle bus search
Nearly 30 secret packages containing cocaine were seized by Australian Border Force following a search of a luxury bus in Fremantle.
Using a combination of targeted intelligence, physical search, detector dogs and advanced technology, the ABF seized 34 kilograms of drugs hidden in the ceiling space of the bus after reaching the ship, known as the rollover ship.
Presumptive testing returned a positive result for cocaine with an estimated weight of 34 kg.
An ABF spokesman said the quantity of cocaine, if it reached the Australian community, would have an estimated street value of up to $11 million, with the potential for 170,000 street-level deals.
ABF Inspector Shaun Senior said the detection highlighted the skills and professionalism of frontline officers.
“Our highly trained ABF officers are equipped with the expertise, intelligence and operational capability to detect and disrupt illegal activity at the border,” he said.
“Criminal gangs continue to test our borders, including complex cargo disguises such as roll-off ships.
“ABF will continue to use every available resource to stop harmful substances before they reach the Australian community.”
Anyone with information about suspicious activity that could affect the security of Australia’s borders is asked to report online to Border Watch.
Investigations continue.
