Brilliant spring flower displays as warm sunshine follows wet winter

Spring is a transition season, as the lingering effects of winter gradually give way to rising temperatures.

The days get longer, the sun rises higher in the sky, and plants respond to this increased sunlight and temperature increase.

Snowdrops and daffodils are giving way to tulips and bluebells, and the speed and intensity of spring blooms are greatly affected by weather conditions.

This year much of the UK started spring with plenty of moisture in the soil after a wetter than average winter. Met Office figures show that March provides plenty of sunshine as well as very warm weather, especially for England and Wales.
