Duchess Sophie’s one-word nickname says all about true status in Royal Family | Royal | News

A one-word nickname given to Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, could reveal her true position within the Royal Family, it has been claimed. The Duchess, who is married to the King’s youngest brother Prince Edward, has kept a busy schedule of late, reportedly traveling “tens of thousands of miles” while carrying out her Royal duties.
As a working member of the Firm, Sophie traveled across continents to engage with conflict survivors and refugees, highlighting humanitarian crises in places from war-torn Sudan to Bosnia. The Duchess’ itinerary also includes Ukraine, Kosovo and Sierra Leone; The Crown’s “secret weapon” commemorates the 30th Anniversary of the Srebrenica Genocide and contacts peacekeepers in the Democratic Republic of Congo. According to the Telegraph’s Hannah Furness, why Sophie’s choice was “brave”; Furness had highlighted a one-word explanation that could further explain her importance within the Royal Family.
Hannah observed: “It’s tough work: lively, traumatic and often a far cry from the soap opera of British royal headlines.”
“It’s not for nothing that Sophie is constantly referred to as the Royal Family’s ‘secret weapon’ – the silent ‘savior’ of the monarchy, which has lately been suffering from a lack of active members due to her own little mistake.”
He continued: “The causes he chooses to champion are courageous, and he is not afraid to speak out about crimes that others might hide with euphemisms.”
Hannah said the Duchess was “ready to do more” and take on a “more significant” role when her “fallen” nephew, Prince William, succeeds his father to the throne.
Reports emerged last July that Duchess Sophie felt “relieved” at not having to curtsy to Meghan Markle following her promotion to a more senior title, a friend said.
Sophie, formerly Countess of Wessex, received the Royal elevation when Edward was granted her new title, enabling her to obtain the distinguished position of Duchess of Edinburgh.
Before this change, Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex and Prince Harry’s wife, held a superior position in the hierarchy, meaning Royal etiquette required Sophie to curtsy to her at events.
Accordingly Hello! magazine, a friend told reporters: “Sophie is relieved. She no longer needs to curtsy to someone in the family who has not only abandoned royal duties but also spent the last three years criticizing the very institution Sophie has worked so hard to support.”
Speaking about the idea of her being the Royal Family’s secret weapon, Sophie admitted to The Mirror that she likes to “fly under the radar” and although “everything is fine” it can be “top secret” if no one knows about it.
He stated: “I don’t see myself in a front-line position, although admittedly there are fewer people working in the family these days, so I think I’m becoming less and less secretive.”
Sophie joked: “I wonder what they’ll describe me as next.”
