Google India profit stays almost flat at ₹1,437 crores in FY25
Google India recorded flat standalone profit of ₹1,436.9 billion in the financial year ended March 2025 due to lower revenue and higher employee and tax expenses, according to a regulatory filing shared by market intelligence firm Tofler.
The company made an after-tax profit of around ₹1,425 crore in the previous financial year.
When contacted, a Google India spokesperson said that the fiscal 2025 figures cannot be compared with the fiscal 2024 figures.
“The profit of Rs 1.425 billion for 2024 also includes profit from the IT division. The IT division has been spun off into a separate company (Google IT Services), hence GIPL profit figures for 2025 do not reflect the IT division profit,” the spokesperson said.
The spokesperson further said that the net income for 2024 includes adjustment (addition) of ₹229 crore, which relates to the income of financial years 2016-17 to 2022-23 but is reflected in 2024 based on the BAPA agreement signed with the government of India.
A note in the company’s financial report stated that the company signed a Bilateral Advance Pricing Agreement (BAPA) with the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) under Section 92CC of the Income Tax Act, 1961, covering transactions related to the purchase of advertising space and corporate products from Google Asia Pacific (GAP) in March 2024.
Under the terms of BAPA, the company agreed on an arm’s length price for the purchase of advertising space and corporate products from GAP for the financial years 2016-17 to 2024-25.
“As per BAPA on the said transactions, the company has accounted additional income of Rs 2,297 crore under revenues from operations (net) for the year 2016-17 to 2022-23 in its financial statement for the year ended March 31, 2024 and additional income of Rs 2,297 crore has been submitted to tax by the company.
Revenue from Google India operations fell 3.2% to ₹ 5,340 crore in the reported fiscal. From ₹5,518 crore in FY24.
Google India’s total revenue rose 3.2% to ₹6,116 crore from ₹5,921 crore a year ago; this is an “other income” account of approximately 776 crore rupees.
According to Tofler’s analysis, Google India’s net margin also decreased to 23.49% from 24.06% last year.
“The company’s total expenses for the fiscal year were reported as Rs 4.136 billion,” Tofler said.
The company saw a 7.8% increase in employee benefit expense to around ₹2,146 crore in FY25 from ₹1,989 crore in the corresponding period in the previous year.
Total tax expense of Google India during the reported fiscal increased by 22.6% to around ₹543 crore in FY25, from over ₹442 crore in FY24.
