Yellow heat health alert comes into force across parts of UK as rain expected over weekend

A yellow heat health warning has come into force in parts of England despite rain forecast this weekend.

Warnings will be in force from 9am on Friday until 9am on Sunday and cover the East Midlands, West Midlands, South East, South West, east of England and London.

The UK Health Safety Agency (UKHSA) said hot weather could impact health and social care services and put vulnerable people at risk.

Health chiefs also warned water-related incidents, including risks of cold water shock and drowning, could increase.

Temperatures will be 29 degrees in London and 28 degrees in Birmingham and Norwich on Saturday. However, rain is also expected.

This follows three consecutive heat waves and one of the driest springs on record, which saw a nationwide tornado ban implemented.
