England World Cup squad: Harry Maguire and Fikayo Tomori to be left out

Harry Maguire and Fikayo Tomori are among the central defensive options to be left out of England’s World Cup squad.
Both players were part of Thomas Tuchel’s previous squad for friendlies against Japan and Uruguay, but will not be able to fly to North America.
Maguire confirmed in a post on Instagram: “After last season I was confident I could play an important role for my country this summer. I am shocked and heartbroken by this decision. I wish the players all the best.”
Maguire’s Manchester United teammate Luke Shaw will also not play despite his impressive season.
Shaw was named in Tuchel’s provisional 55-man squad and there was a huge fuss over his inclusion.
However, Shaw is expected to miss this game, considering Newcastle’s Dan Burn and Manchester City’s Nico O’Reilly are about to be called up.
Arsenal winger Noni Madueke is expected to be included in the final 26-man squad, along with teammates Bukayo Saka and Declan Rice.
Tuchel will announce his squad for the World Cup, which starts on June 11, on Friday.
